The Department of Mathematics at KTH is offering a position as postdoc in mathematical statistics with emphasis on modelling och prediction/classification of neural signals. The project area is “Bioelectronic medicine” which is an interdisciplinary research area that combines molecular medicine, neuroscience, engineering, and data analysis to develop devices to diagnose and treat disease by electrical stimulation of the peripheral nerve system. The position is financed by a grant from WASP-DDLS (Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software program / Data-Driven Life Science) and the research is conducted in collaboration with researchers at the Department of Medicing at the Karolinska Institute.
The position as postdoc aims at conducting research in applied mathematics with emphasis on methods for signal processing, statistical inference and machine learning. The overall aim of the project is specifically to decode nerve signals for prediction of glucose in the blood, but can also be further developed for identification of electrical activity in the nervous system related to the presence of cytokines and other markers of inflammation. The research includes mathematical development and analysis of models and methods for data analysis as well as practical implementation and analysis of data from clinical studies.
