Job description

The Department of Biomedical Engineering and Health Systems is looking for a research engineer to work on several exciting projects. The projects all focus on analyzing data from healthcare records to inform early detection, improving workflows and patient flows, for personalizing treatment plans and so on. The research engineer will be responsible for data analysis and building ML and AI models and pipelines for these projects. The engineer must be capable of working with diverse sets of large volumes of data, and capable of handling both structured and unstructured data. The eventual goal is to implement the developed models as standard pipelines or tools which can be reused and published.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing AI and machine learning methods for analysis – statistical models, GNNs 
  • Developing ML and AI pipelines for data analysis of healthcare data, both structured and unstructured
  • Modeling the data into a graph structure, for eventual storage in a graph database
  • Collaborating with clinicians involved in the projects

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence. 

Preferred qualifications

  •  Strong programming skills in Python, and other relevant languages (such as R)
  • Experience with web development frameworks and libraries (e.g., React) is a bonus
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and distributed computing systems, and familiarity with Linux
  • Background in AI, machine learning, or data science, preferably with a focus on statistical methods 
  • Experience with visualization and working with large datasets is an added bonus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills 
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality
