The scope of the project encompasses the integration of AI ML methodologies in the field of ship hydrodynamics. The primary focuses are directed towards developing a digital ship design process, building a geometry modification process for ship hull form design, developing a basic decision support system for ship hydrodynamic design, implementing artificial intelligence machine learning methods in ship hydrodynamic design as part of the proposed digital design process. By leveraging AI-driven approaches, the project aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of these crucial aspects of ship design, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and technologically advanced vessels in the maritime industry. Through this comprehensive scope, the project endeavors to push the boundaries of ship hydrodynamics and leverage the potential of machine learning for the betterment of ship design practices.
The project will be conducted in close collaboration with FOI, Stena, Swedish Transport Agency, FMV, Maritime Officers' Association, SALTECH Consultants, ScandiNAOS, FKAB Marine Design and Wallenius Marine.
Supervision: Assistant professor Abbas Dashtimanesh, Associate Professor Karl Garme (KTH), Senior Researcher Pahansen De Alwis (RISE) and Professor Wengang Mao (Chalmers university of Technology) are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission.

Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. In the case of studies that are to be completed with a licentiate degree, the total period of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
