Third-cycle subject: Energy and Environmental Systems
The division of Energy Systems within the Department of Energy Technology at KTH has received funding from the UK-funded Climate Compatible Growth Program (CCG) for research in integrated Climate-Land-Energy-Water systems (CLEWs) modelling. The research aims to support sustainable development through integrated planning, considering different dimensions of sustainable development. The research will focus on integrated resource optimization and stakeholder engagement for resource-management and energy policy planning in Zambia and Laos. As a PhD student, you will mainly work with resource optimization in long-term scenarios to support national development strategies. The models are built in the OSeMOSYS tool. Participation with national stakeholders to define the context, shape scenarios, and transfer modeling capacity will be an integral aspect of the research project. This involvement will be facilitated through collaborative initiatives, including the EU-funded project RE-INTEGRATE and UN-funded technical assistance programs operating within the chosen countries.

You should also have good knowledge of energy technology and energy systems, as well as modeling within the field, including optimization. After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. In the case of studies that are to be completed with a licentiate degree, the total period of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
