Job description

Emerging food innovations, in combination with digitalization and automation, are expected to transform agro-food value chains, changing how we produce, process, package, supply and distribute food. Novel technologies and new initiatives within cellular agriculture, alternative protein substitutes and urban agriculture are just a few to name. This postdoctoral position focuses on business models and social acceptance of food innovations as well as their implications for sustainability and resilience. Some questions that the postdoc project can address, but is not limited to, are: how do new value chains develop for food innovations? What kind of new business models and new actors are emerging? How can food innovations be scaled up and result in sustainability and resilience? How do consumers and other actors perceive and accept emerging food innovations? What are the environmental impacts of innovations and new product-service systems for food?

The duties of the postdoc include:

  • Conduct innovative research within the scope of the post doc position at KTH FOOD.
  • Publication of research papers in high-quality journals, including leading perspective articles on sustainability of food innovations.
  • Present research at conferences and meetings.
  • Initiate collaboration with a team of other postdocs and faculty at KTH FOOD as well as within relevant networks both nationally and internationally.
  • Initiate, and participate in funding applications to relevant calls, nationally and internationally.

The project is part of KTH FOOD, a new research center for sustainable and healthy food systems that aims to engage and align the education, research, and outreach competences at KTH towards a sustainable and healthy food system. This postdoctoral position mainly focuses on the themes: Sustainable food production and Value chains & consumption. The position will be based at the Department of Industrial Economics and Management (INDEK), in close cooperation with the Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science, and Engineering (SEED). The post doc researcher will be involved in activities in both departments.

Qualifications

Requirements

A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree within a relevant topic area. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.

Preferred qualifications

A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
