Third-cycle subject: Fibre and Polymer Science
We are looking for a PhD student eager to work with the big plastic challenges. This includes the use of renewable resources, development of greener synthesis methodologies as well as chemical and mechanical recycling for the product, in an active research environment. Plastics are today irreplaceable materials that enable our lifestyle and a sustainable development. At the same time, plastics have a negative impact on our environment when we utilize depleting resources in their production and because the large volumes of plastic waste generated in linear material streams. For the future, we need to use carbon dioxide neutral building-blocks and create circular material streams by using recyclable products. In this project, building-blocks from chemically recycled plastic waste and renewable resources will be combined and via greener reaction processes we will design and develop a new type of recyclable insulation foam for circularity. This will be enabled using dynamic bonds as the core chemistry, yielding products with the necessary material properties during use while enabling efficient material recycling at the end-of-life. Create circular insulating foams is central, as the energy usage often is household’s largest contribution to greenhouse gas emission, where an efficient thermal insulation contributes economically, socially and environmentally to sustainability.
