Brain-inspired systems (also known as neuromorphic systems) combine theories from computer science, hardware design, and neuroscience in order to create computer systems that mimic the human brain. These systems are more energy-efficient compared to classical computer systems and have applications within brain-simulation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and optimization problems.
We are now looking for a PhD student who will work within an EU project (EXTRA-BRAIN) where neuromorphic systems and spiking neural networks (SNNs) will be used to solve problems inside the future IoT-Edge-Cloud continuum. The position is financed by the EU through the EXTRA-BRAIN project.
The Ph.D. student will work with several aspects of the project, including the use of neuromorphic systems on FPGAs and GPUs, implementing new brain-inspired models (e.g., BCPNN), and research how to integrate neuromorphic systems into emerging server-less environments (e.g., using WebAssembly). The student is expected to disseminate research results in top-tier international journals and conferences. In addition, the Ph.D. student will actively participate in department and group activities (such as seminars, courses, and conferences) as well as participate in teaching.
Third-cycle subject: Information and Communication Technology
Supervision: Associate Professor Artur Podobas.
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
The ideal candidate has a master in computer science or electronics/embedded systems and good knowledge and documented experience within (one or several) of the following: reconfigurable hardware (e.g., FPGAs), Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), and work in parallel computer systems.
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6, read more here
In order to succeed as a doctoral student at KTH you need to be goal oriented and persevering in your work. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed upon their ability to:
