The research project for the present PhD position is within in the field of fusion plasma physics. The ultimate goal of fusion plasma physics is to develop commercial fusion reactors. However, there are challenges and several issues that must to be resolved on the way to building a first fusion power plant. One of the key issues is to understand the so called high confinement tokamak regime, where steep gradients develop in the plasma edge to form a pedestal.
The project aims at developing the understanding of the pedestal behavior, in part via experimental data analysis of present-day fusion experiments and in part via theoretical modelling.
The project will be carried out in an international framework and the student will work in close collaboration with partner institutions from other countries, primarily within Europe. The student might carry out a part of his/her research activity abroad
