Third-cycle subject: Doctoral program in Applied and Computational Mathematics
In this project, we will develop theory, methods, and applications for optimal transport problems. Optimal transport is a rapidly growing area that historically mainly was used in logistics and economics, but with recent advances in algorithms and increased computational resources has been utilized in a large number of application areas such as multi-agent systems, machine learning, probability theory, and imaging. In this project we will consider multi-marginal optimal transport problems, a class of generalized optimal transport problems that has been particularly useful for formulating sensor fusion problems and modelling evolutions or flows in particle systems. By utilizing methods and theory from optimization, systems theory, and functional analysis, we will develop new mathematical results, computational algorithms, and apply these results in areas such as traffic flow modelling, imaging, and bioinformatics.
Supervision: Johan Karlsson is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6, read more here
In order to succeed as a doctoral student at KTH you need to be goal oriented and persevering in your work. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed upon their ability to:
We seek a person with strong background in mathematics, with a degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or similar. Knowledge and demonstrated understanding in optimization, systems theory, functional analysis and complex analysis is meriting. The successful applicant should also be strongly motivated, have the capability to work independently, be able to work in a team and have good communication skills.
After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.
Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student.
