KTH operates and advances research and education at the Department of Engineering Mechanics within the School of Engineering Sciences (SCI) and the Department of Production Engineering at the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (ITM). We are currently broadening our multidisciplinary research efforts by introducing a postdoctoral position in Digital Twin for Ship Design and Production, a collaboration between two departments. This full-time position is primarily research-focused, with 90% dedicated to research activities and 10% to teaching. Qualification as a researcher requires active participation in projects across both departments.
The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in the Digital Futures Research Pair project SHIFT-DT (Sustainable, Holistic, Integrated Framework for Ship Design and Production Transformation through Digital Twins), focusing on Digital Twin for Ship Design and Production. Our primary objective is to investigate how digital twins can be leveraged to drive innovations in ship design and production, ultimately contributing to the decarbonization of shipping. We are focused on developing a versatile and forward-looking digital twin architecture, tailored specifically to meet the evolving demands in design and production sectors. Furthermore, our commitment extends to creating a robust digital twin application framework, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing emissions in the realm of ship design and production.
This research is a collaborative effort between two departments within the SHIFT-DT project. The role also involves participation in national and international research networks and contributing to the project portfolios of both research groups. Moreover, the postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to mentor PhD students.
The role includes teaching responsibilities in sustainable production development. You will be involved in courses managed by the Department of Production Engineering within MSc programs and may also contribute to professional development courses.
