Job description

The Nuclear Physics Division within the Department of Physics at KTH in collaboration with SSM – The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority – seeks an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to conduct research on the development of radiation detection and imaging techniques for applications in nuclear safeguards and non- proliferation, nuclear security and related areas. The work is focused on development of methods for localization and non-destructive analysis (NDA) of radioactive materials using machine learning techniques and involves the application of numerical simulation codes, laboratory measurements and measurements in the field.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Demonstrated scientific excellence in the form of publication in research journals.
  • A well developed ability to collaborate within a research team. Independence in planning and execution of research.
  • Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken) as it is required in daily work. 

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Demonstrated experience from development of machine learning techniques, digital signal processing and advanced statistical analysis is desired.
  • Expertise in image reconstruction techniques, such as in medical diagnostics or radiation physics will be particularly considered.
  • Teaching abilities.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
