Job description

The Department of Energy Technology is inviting applications for a research engineer position with experience and interest in development and automation of advanced experimental facilities to contribute to research and development of new thermal technologies. The work will deal with development and support of software and hardware solutions for measurements and test automation for experimental activities and research infrastructure, including also support to existing lab rigs used for teaching. Specifically, work is expected to contribute to the development of experimental facilities within EU-funded projects, in strong collaboration with international partners. In doing so being able to describe operation protocols for new rigs together with Principal Investigators, define user interfaces, and have capacity and interest to analyze experimental results in research context; from which journal publications and mainstream media material are expected. Travels are expected for participation in project meetings.

The work is also expected to contribute to the digitalization of lab infrastructure in the department, including development of scheduling/booking systems, data and software management processes.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence. 
  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in energy engineering with experimental background.
  • Documented experience in design and automation of experimental rigs, including test manuals and data acquisition and storage processes.
  • Specific skills and proficiency in programming environments and languages: LabVIEW, C++, G-Web, MATLAB, Phyton, HTML/JavaScript
  • You have the ability to work both independently and to collaborate in a group and have awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues.
  • As a person, you are meticulous, driven and take responsibility for your work.
  • Fluently spoken English is necessary for the work.

Preferred qualifications

  • Completed courses and training in educational aspects in energy engineering.
  • Previous experience in measuring techniques applied to thermal engineering, electric engineering and solar energy engineering applications.
  • Previous experience in teaching and interest in lab educational activities.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality
