School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) in the brain is a technique of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in which mechanical properties of the brain tissue are estimated non-invasively. This project aims to combine MRE and advanced diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) to develop the next generation of MRE methods to improve the biomechanical characterization of brain tissue. The main tasks of the candidate will be:

  • Develop and validate computational models that combine MRE and advanced dMRI to estimate biomechanical properties of the brain at a sub-voxel level.
  • Use advanced dMRI to predict biomechanical properties and validate these with MRE measurements.
  • Report the results in the form of scientific manuscripts.

This project is a collaboration between Associate Professor Rodrigo Moreno (rodmore@kth.se) from the Division of Biomedical Imaging at KTH and Professors Lisa Prahl Wittberg (prahl@kth.se) and Christian Gasser (gasser@kth.se) from the Department of Engineering Mechanics at KTH.

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Work in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH
  • A multi-disciplinary environment that mixes engineers, medical physicists, and medical doctors. The groups conduct research in the frontier area of technology and medicine, focusing on the technical development of new methods and improvement of existing methods for more efficient, safer, and cheaper diagnostics, monitoring, and treatment in health care. For this project, we have already acquired data in collaboration with clinical partners from Karolinska University Hospital.
