School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Chemical Science and Engineering

In this PhD position, the doctoral student is expected to research upon utilizing high- and low-grade heat in bioenergy conversion and CO2 capture (both from point source and air). The doctoral student will conduct experiments both in lab and pilot scale for biomass pyrolysis and gasification. The doctoral student will also work with process integration studies, process modelling and techno-economic analysis for efficient utilization of high and low-grade heat in different processes like pyrolysis, gasification and CO2 capture. The position is funded by a large nationally funded project and involves collaboration with other research groups. The PhD student will perform experiments related to pyrolysis/gasification of biomass in pressurized conditions and characterize the products generated. Suitable design conditions to integrate the process with waste heat source will be identified. Finally, the PhD student will contribute to proposing a design for an upscaled unit. The PhD student will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry and other research partners.

Supervision: Shareq Mohd Nazir and Klas Engvall is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission.
