School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

New, strong materials from renewable raw materials are important to replace fossil-based plastics. The project is about processing of cellulose biocomposites using liquid monomer impregnation of fiber mats or wood substrates. This is followed by in-situ polymerization. The objective is to improve quality of the biocomposites (nanostructure) and to reduce processing time. The project is linked to a EU-project on transparent wood and biocomposites. The polymer department (Fiber and Polymer Technology) is one of the largest in Europe with 11 professors. The research group is focused on functional cellulose materials (eg transparent wood) which also have good mechanical properties. Since these materials are nano- and microporous, they offer unique possibilities for design of multifunctional and hierarchical composites.

What we offer

  • A project closely linked to the Wallenberg Wood Science Center
  • A well-cited, internationally established research group
  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Work in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH
