Sustainable metals.
The subject encompasses fundamental metallurgical studies with focus on process phenomena that enable a transformation towards a more sustainable, environmentally friendly, energy- and resource-efficient metal production and its by-products. The focus lies on generating new knowledge to strengthen the ongoing transformation of the metal industry, including knowledge about new metals and metallurgical processes related to increased recycling, replacement of critical raw materials for society or reducing the impact of derived materials. The topic also includes studies on how to achieve circularity and a circular economy to support the necessary transformation striving towards a modern sustainable metal industry.
The position includes research and teaching in the subject area. Within research the Assistant Professor is expected to contribute to the development of new fields of research in the subject area, which includes both experimental and theoretical studies. The assistant professor will be creating new networks within and outside KTH and actively apply for research funding. The Assistant Professor will be expected to teach undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate classes within the subject area. This includes the development of existing and new courses. In additional the Assistant Professor is expected to contribute to the operation and development of educational programs related to the subject, and supervise thesis projects at first and second cycle along with PhD student supervision in the subject field. The Assistant Professor are expected to contribute to the fulfillment of KTH's objectives in sustainable development.
The assistant professor will be given opportunity to develop their independence as researcher and gain accreditation that may allow them to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance). Following application, the assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12c of the Higher Education Ordinance.
An individual who has completed a doctorate or equivalent scientific competence is qualified for appointment as an assistant professor. Candidates who met those qualifications a maximum of five years before the deadline for applying for the appointment as an assistant professor has expired should be prioritized. Other candidates may also be considered there are special reasons. Special reasons refers to absence due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

When assessing applications for promotion to associate professor, provisions according to Section 1.2.4 of Appointments procedure at KTH will be applied. Ability to teach in Swedish is a merit that is given great importance in the application for promotion.

Time limitation:The appointment is for an indefinite term, but no more than six years, and may be extended if, due to the teacher’s absence due to sick leave, parental leave or other special grounds, more time is required to reach the objectives of the appointment.
