School of Engineering Sciences at KTH

Job description

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a well-established technology to distribute secret keys between two or more parties for data encryption. Within this position you will experimentally investigate the integration of QKD into telecom networks, working in the Nonlinear and Quantum Photonics (NQP) group and the WACQT Quantum communication pillar led by Prof. Katia Gallo at the Department of Applied Physics. The group has experience in the study and development of advanced material structuring, photonic devices and systems for information and communication technologies. The main driver is to carry out applied research by developing fundamental ideas with great potential for revolutionizing future photonic products and applications. We are coordinating the EU national quantum communication infrastructure in Sweden (NQCIS) and responsible for the establishment of its main operational hub in Stockholm. In this framework, we are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will be a part of experimental demonstrations of QKD systems in lab settings and of in-field QKD implementations and tests across KTH, in the Stockholm metropolitan area and on long-distance links in Sweden (with a increased focus on free space-QKD), in partnership with academic and industrials actors. The project offers the opportunity to acquire experience on and contribute to large scale system experiments with state-of-the-art QKD technology, working on real use cases in an international and collaborative research environment.
