School of Engineering Sciences at KTH

Job description

Membrane proteins enable the communication between biological cells and their environment. They are also a privileged class of drug targets since they are directly accessible to modulators (drugs) from the extracellular environment. The researcher will lead a project to develop the capabilities of molecular dynamics simulations to make it possible to grasp the interplay between the structure, dynamics, and function of several membrane proteins and to  come up with novel targeted modulation strategies.

The capabilities of classical molecular dynamics simulations can be extended using enhanced sampling methods. The researcher will lead efforts to devise protocols that will adapt enhanced sampling methods to enable conformational sampling of membrane proteins such as G-protein coupled receptors, transporters and ion channels, and to implement such protocols in the molecular dynamics simulation package GROMACS. The researcher will also be in charge of communicating the results in oral and written form, to participate in efforts to secure funding and HPC time on national and European infrastructure and to co-supervise junior researchers in related projects.
