KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences

Job description

Sugar porters are membrane proteins whose role is to import sugar molecules into cells in a selective manner. Structure determination has revealed that they do so using an alternating access mechanism. However, the mechanisms behind their selectivity and the rate of transport remain to be fully understood. To achieve this, it is necessary to gain a full understanding of their dynamical behavior. Experimental (NMR, EPR, etc…) and computational (structure prediction, molecular dynamics simulations, etc…) techniques can be leveraged together to achieve a comprehensive picture of their structure/function relationship.
The researcher hired for this project will carry out a combination of computational and experimental work to further our understanding of the function of several members of the sugar porter family.
