The Drug Discovery & Development platform at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab DDD) is a national infrastructure for academic drug development with the task of translating academic discoveries into drug candidates for further commercial development. The business, which has existed for almost ten years, has, among other things, contributed to >10 new companies and four clinical drug candidates. The platform includes around 40 employees at six Swedish universities who all support collaborative projects with external academic project owners.

The DDD unit "Therapeutic Protein Engineering" (TPE) is attached to KTH and located at SciLifeLab DDD, Solna. The unit's main responsibility is to deliver well-characterized antibodies, antigens, and target proteins to the projects, as well as be technically responsible for the selection-based projects.

Your tasks will be to do phage display selection of antibody fragments to therapeutic targets, with the aim to develop protein based drugs. You will express and purify binders and analyze their binding in assays and using various established methods. Your tasks will be predominantly lab-based, and you will work as a member of different project teams with the aim to deliver drug candidates.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent in biotechnology, biochemistry or molecular biology
  • Phage display selection of antibody fragments or other scaffolds
  • Screening of binders using ELISA or SPR
  • Thorough knowledge of standard protein analysis methods
  • Standard molecular biology, e.g. cloning, PCR, mutagenesis
  • Protein purification and analysis, e.g. western blot
  • Expression of proteins in E.coli 

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience from biotech/pharmaceutical industry or relevant academic research environment
  • Construction of phage libraries, or other libraries
  • Affinity maturation
  • Biophysical protein analysis methods, e.g. CD spectroscopy, DLS and DSF
  • Transient expression of proteins in mammalian cells
  • Protein purification using ÄKTA systems or similar systems
  • Experience with protein engineering
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Project management and coordination
  • Knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality 
  • Good collaborative abilities and a high level of independence

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment
