School of Industrial Engineering and Management at KTH

Subject field

Energy Technology with specialization in Thermal Solar Energy Systems and Hybridization

Subject description

The subject encompasses the study of solar energy systems based on high temperature thermal technologies, interconnected with and combined with other suitable conversion technologies such as steam cycles and supercritical CO2 cycles. Hybridization refers to the integration of thermal solar systems with other energy conversion technologies such as solar cells or heat pumps to increase system efficiency. The systems are designed to enable both short- and long-term energy storage, stabilize interconnected energy networks, and meet industrial needs. The focus of the subject is on numerical modeling and optimization with a high level of detail regarding dynamic behavior and techno-economic performance. The modeling aims to address the sizing and design of technologies, operational optimization, application, and their economic value in a market.
