Third-cycle subject: Computer Science
The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems and other AI/ML-powered applications present transformative opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, and personalized education at different academic levels and across educational contexts. However, fully harnessing these opportunities requires a triple focus: 1) conducting research to identify ways of integrating AI tools that positively impact teaching and learning, 2) leveraging these insights to design innovative and effective AI technologies for education, and 3) equipping students and teachers with the skills and knowledge to use these tools effectively and ethically.
As a doctoral student you will join a multidisciplinary project that aims to study and design the next generation of AI tools for education. You will have the opportunity to apply and learn technical skills (e.g., AI/ML model training and fine-tuning, data science, explainable AI), design skills (e.g., visualisation, front-end development), human-centred skills (e.g., conducting user studies, iterative design), and education-specific skills (e.g., applying educational frameworks, researching learning outcomes). The research will be conducted in close collaboration with experts in human-computer interaction and learning analytics at KTH, experts in human-centered AI for learning and virtual agents as well as students and teachers at KTH, and several national and international collaborators.
