School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH

Job description

The RE will work on visual fine-grained classification. In particular they will compare image representations extracted from neural networks trained generatively to those trained discriminately via classification or self-supervised learning for this task. The particular focus will be on plankton species identification with the goal to improve classification and to ultimately identify of novel species with active learning. You will join a joint project between the groups of Josephine Sullivan at RPL, Prof Anders Andersson at the CBH school and Bengt Karlson at SMHI. Check out this article for https://www.kth.se/om/nyheter/centrala-nyheter/havets-oumbarliga-minsting-kartlaggs-1.1359180 details on this work can contribute to the science of plankton! 1) Learn about modern image generation techniques

2) Conduct experiments on a GPU clusters

3) Review and critically analyze recent research in fine-grained classification

It is hoped the completed work will result in a published paper at either a computer vision conference or workshop. There is also the possibility to redefine the project to focus on active learning.
