School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH

Job description

We are currently looking for a postdoc with great interest in networked control systems and a strong background in applied mathematics, control theory, machine learning, and related areas. The successful candidate will join the Project “Analysis and Synergy of Hyper-networked Autonomy at the Societal Scale”. The project aims to develop analysis and synergy mechanisms for complex systems consisting of high-order interactions, with a particular focus on opinion and societal-scale dynamics on hypernetworks. The goal is to apply insights derived from collective behaviors of social dynamics on hypernetworks and moment-based approaches to societal-scale networked systems to design more efficient and sustainable infrastructures, such as transportation systems, smart grids, and smart buildings, where human decisions and group interactions play critical roles.

The selected candidate will be part of a collaborative research team led by two PIs: Assistant Professor Angela Fontan (KTH/EECS) and Assistant Professor Silun Zhang (KTH/SCI). The position will be structured such that the first year is based in the EECS School, and the second year in the Department of Mathematics at KTH.

The workplace The Division of Decision and Control Systems conducts fundamental research in networked control systems, control, machine learning, system identification, and learning and optimization of cyber-physical-human systems. Industrial projects involve partners such as ABB, Ericsson, and Scania. A major part of the research is conducted in EU projects in collaboration with European industry and universities. We have a large academic network and collaborate with researchers at Caltech, MIT, UC Berkeley, Stanford, among others. For more information, see www.kth.se/dcs.

KTH's Department of Mathematics (https://www.kth.se/math) has vibrant research environment, featuring world-class groups in applied, computational, and pure mathematics, as well as mathematical statistics. The research group excels in mathematical systems theory, with particular emphasis on stochastic systems, identification and robust and nonlinear control, optimization with particular emphasis on large-scale nonlinear programming and a range of applications. With a strong tradition of collaboration, the group works closely with startups, industry leaders, and academic institutions across Sweden and Europe, driving innovation and impactful research. Notable industrial projects span robotics, radiation therapy, cell biology, and supply chain optimization.
