Six doctoral positions are being advertised simultaneously within the School of Architecture and the Built Environment’s focus on digitalization and sustainability.
Third-cycle subject: Environmental Engineering, with a specialisation in Hydraulics and Technical Hydrology
The Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science and Engineering is seeking a PhD candidate for a project focusing on cloudburst management in a changing climate. The project aims to develop robust strategies for managing pluvial flood risks under significant uncertainty by combining hydrological modeling with risk assessments and flood management strategies. The work will be carried out in an interdisciplinary research environment, where future scenarios, mathematical models, and theoretical approaches are developed. The project is expected to provide new insights and strategies to support decision-making that promotes sustainable and resilient development of physical infrastructure.
Supervision: Joakim Riml from the Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science, and Engineering and Per Wikman Svahn from the Department of Philosophy and History are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission.
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
To be admitted to the third-cycle education in Environmental Engineering, the applicant must have passed courses resulting in at least 60 credits at minimum second-cycle level in Environmental Engineering or other subjects deemed directly relevant to the chosen specialisation. These entry requirements can be also be considered fulfilled by an applicant who has acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in arrangement.
In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6.

Great importance in the selection process will be placed on academic results and completed courses, with a previous specialization in hydrology and hydraulics being highly desirable and particularly meritorious. Furthermore, experience in numerical modeling, programming, and/or data analysis is advantageous, as well as knowledge in uncertainty and risk analysis.
After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. In the case of studies that are to be completed with a licentiate degree, the total period of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
