Third-cycle subject: Water and environmental technology
The Division of Water and Environmental Engineering (WEE) at the Department of Sustainable Development, Environmental Science and Engineering (SEED), KTH Royal Institute of Technology, is seeking two motivated PhD candidates to work on innovative solutions for wastewater and sludge management. Our group conducts research in a broad range of areas, including water quality, micropollutants, resource recovery, and sustainable treatment technologies.
PhD 1: Micropollutants (PFAS, microplastics, and nanoplastics) in Sewage Sludge and the Environment
This project focuses on understanding how PFAS, microplastics, and nanoplastics behave and interact in sewage sludge, as well as their potential dispersion into the environment when sludge is used as fertilizer. The work involves analyzing pollutant transformation, mobility, and associated risks related to sludge reuse.
PhD 2: Pyrolysis of Sewage Sludge and Biochar for Wastewater Treatment
This project explores the pyrolysis of sewage sludge and the potential of sludge-based biochar for removing pollutants from wastewater. The research includes pyrolysis processes, biochar activation, material characterization, and testing biochar in water treatment applications.
