Subject description

The subject of Communication Systems includes the sub-areas of internetworking, communication software and services, wireless systems, and security in networked systems. The focus is on the systems perspective, where applications, protocols, and hardware interact to solve practical problems.

Duties

The work consists of contributing to, developing, and eventually leading KTH’s research and teaching within the subject area. The work includes teaching in the first and second cycle courses in internetworking, security in networked systems, and similar subjects, as well as supervising degree projects at the bachelor's and master's levels. The work also includes conducting research within networked systems and, through external funds, building up a research group within the subject area. The research should have both theoretical and experimental elements. The associate professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within three years. If necessary, a language support plan will be devised at the time of employment.

Eligibility

Those eligible to be employed as associate professor are persons who have:

  1. have completed a doctorate or possess equivalent scientific expertise or some other professional expertise that is of significance with regard to the subject content of the employment and the duties that are required of the employment, and
  2. demonstrated pedagogical expertise.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • pedagogical expertise in Communication Systems, especially regarding the ability to teach internetworking and security in networked systems.
  • scientific expertise in Communication Systems, demonstrated through scientific results and publications in conferences and journals of the highest international quality, ability to attract external funding, active participation in research collaborations, and ability to innovate and develop the subject area.

Of second highest importance is that the applicant has

  • the ability to collaborate.
  • the ability to cooperate with the outside community for mutual exchange and having acted to ensure that the knowledge and skills found at the university benefit society.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • administrative expertise.
  • expertise in developing and leading activities and staff. For that purpose, the individual is to be knowledgeable about diversity and equal
