A one-year researcher position is available at the Department of Industrial Biotechnology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. As a researcher, you will be the part of the international (SYMBIOREM) and transnational project (SEAREFINERY) in the team of Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Cetecioglu Gurol.  Activities in the SYMBIOREM project focuses on valorization of phosphorus and metals from the marine sediment and remediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH).  In this project, the researcher will be responsible for operating bioleaching reactors (10L) in the laboratory scale, stakeholder engagement, management of the project within KTH and collaborating closely with the project coordinator. SEAREFINERY project is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Cetecioglu Gurol and it aims to establish a novel bio-based blue food/feed and blue food packaging materials production platform. The researcher will be responsible for management of the project including coordination, monitoring, documentation and dissemination activities. Furthermore, the researcher will supervise master students.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in environmental or chemical engineering
  • Complex problem-solving skills and critical thinking
  • Ability to work interdisciplinary and independently
  • Experience in research project management and stakeholder engagements
  • Knowledge on bioprocesses design for marine sediment valorization
  • Experience in bioleaching process, phosphorus recovery and bioreactor operation
  • Experience in molecular microbial tools
  • Experience in teaching and supervision in higher education
  • A strong academic track record, demonstrated by high-quality publications
  • Good communication skills and command of written and spoken English as it is frequently spoken at the department 

Preferred qualifications

  • Collaborative international experience
  • Awareness of sustainability concepts
  • Knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality 

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment
