Job description

We are looking for a motivated and technically skilled Mechanical Engineering student to join our research team this summer as an Amanuens at KTH. The project focuses on the mechanical design and construction of a hydrofoil rig for the FoilCart research platform.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting experimental marine technology project at the intersection of mechanics, innovation, and sustainability. You'll gain hands-on experience with real-world prototyping and contribute to the future of sustainable maritime transport.

As part of the project, you will:

  • Work with the design and mechanical construction of a hydrofoil test rig.
  • Collaborate with researchers in a lab environment.
  • Use CAD tools to develop mechanical components.
  • Utilize 3D printing and hands-on prototyping techniques.
  • Participate in assembling and testing the rig in preparation for experimental trials

Qualifications

Requirements

  • You should be admitted to first or second-level cycle education at a  Swedish university 
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Practical experience with lab work and mechanical construction.
  • Proficient in CAD software (e.g., Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and 3D printing tools. 

Preferred qualifications

  • Student at KTH
  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program at KTH.
  • Previous experience or demonstrated interest in hydrofoil systems or marine hydrodynamics.
  • Familiarity with structural design for dynamic loads

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
