We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow in production logistics, where the focus will be on utilizing AI and multi-agent-based systems to support a circular factory. We see circularity as a core area for industrial production that will contribute to the transition required for a sustainable society through interdisciplinary approaches. The qualified and selected candidate will join a research team on Production logistics, within the Department of Production Engineering, that conducts cutting-edge research with the goal of contributing to a European manufacturing industry that transforms its linear model into a circular manufacturing model. This involves a completely new strategy for resources and their conservation and where production logistics, material handling and production planning & control are keys to efficient and circular production. To enable this, we see a system architecture based on LLM-based multi-agent systems as an enabler for this vision of the future.
The postdoctoral fellow will work on both nationally and internationally funded projects that aim to develop the production logistics of the future for a circular economy in the manufacturing sector. The work includes developing LLM-based tools and interfaces for planning and controlling material flows, and describing and validating the system architectures required to achieve this. The aim is to enable an increased degree of remanufacturing, which entails a higher degree of variability in flows, variants, input materials and processes that are to be planned and controlled in a dynamic manner. During the employment period, the postdoctoral fellow will mainly conduct research and develop his/her independence as a researcher and create conditions for further qualifications. The postdoctoral fellow may also be involved in and contribute to teaching at basic, advanced and postgraduate levels.
