Background

In celebration of KTH’s 200th anniversary and in line with the university’s commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and experimental learning, KTH is establishing a central Maker Space at the KTH Library. We are now looking for a committed and visionary colleague to take on the assignment as Director of the Central KTH Maker Space (40%), alongside their current employment at KTH.

The Maker Space will support both curriculum-based and extracurricular activities, encourage interdisciplinary exploration, and act as a hub for prototyping, practical workshops, and sustainable practices. It will also serve as a gateway to the many specialised maker environments across KTH.

Job description

As Director, you will:

  • Lead and develop the central Maker Space in line with KTH’s strategic goals.
  • Coordinate and support integration of maker-based learning into courses and programmes.
  • Supervise a small operational team (amanuenses, technician/space coordinator, communication officer).
  • Act as ambassador for the Maker Space and promote visibility of related environments across KTH.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including potential industry partners.

The assignment is 40% of full-time and runs initially for three years, with possibility for extension. The Director reports to the Deputy President at KTH and works closely with a steering group.

Eligibility and assessment criteria

We are looking for a person who:

  • Is currently employed at KTH as an Assistant Professor (Biträdande lektor) or higher.
  • Has a strong interest in experimental pedagogy and hands-on learning environments.
  • Demonstrates ability to lead initiatives, engage students, and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Is motivated to contribute to KTH’s sustainability and innovation goals through practical action.
  • Experience from managing labs, project courses or student-driven spaces is a merit.
