School of Industrial Engineering and Management at KTH

Job description

We invite applications for a postdoc position in hybrid additive + subtractive manufacturing research with a focus on repair and remanufacturing of worn-out components particularly for high temperature turbine applications.  The successful candidate will join a research team conducting cutting-edge research with the goal of helping the European manufacturing industry creating a more circular future through this focus. This will include an exciting work in terms of hardware/software use and upgrade of additive manufacturing machines to achieve optimal processing, which could be especially empowered by monitoring and computer programming in the context of circular approaches, such as manufacturing with minimal defects, repair and remanufacturing.

The candidate will work for two years on this cutting-edge topic. In addition, the candidate will contribute to other projects linked to the manufacturing for various additive and hybrid manufacturing applications. Within the two years course of this postdoc, it is expected from the applicant to:

  1. combine laser wire DED with high-precision machining and develop novel strategies for repair and remanufacturing of worn-out components particularly from superalloys and stainless steels
  2. implement in-situ sensors (3D scanner, thermal imaging, visual camera, etc.) and adaptive toolpath strategies to assist hybrid manufacturing.
  3. develop digitally driven value chain models to estimate the environmental and economic savings of hybrid technology
  4. create multiple high quality publications
