This project focuses on developing smart and sustainable functional materials by combining cellulose, one of the world’s most abundant and renewable biopolymers, with advanced conducting nanomaterials such as MXenes and conducting polymers. By merging sustainability with high-performance electronic functionality, the research aims to create new hybrid materials that are not only environmentally friendly but also highly suitable for healthcare applications.
The envisioned materials will be engineered into thin films, membranes, and 3D-printed structures with tunable electrical, mechanical, and sensing properties. These “smart” materials will enable next-generation health technologies, including advanced biomedical patches, wearable monitoring systems, and smart absorbent products such as diapers that can track and respond to physiological signals in real time. The outcomes have the potential to impact not only healthcare and wellbeing, but also to set new standards for sustainable materials innovation in the broader field of bioelectronics.
