Postdoc in microgrids for arctic regions

Job description

The transition to sustainable and resilient energy systems is especially challenging in Arctic and sub-Arctic regions, due to the extremely cold weather, long winters, limited daylight, and weak grid infrastructures. At the same time, these regions present emerging opportunities, such as hosting energy-intensive data centers, where cold climates significantly reduce cooling needs. Ensuring sustainable and resilient energy supply in such harsh environments requires advanced microgrid technologies.   

This project focuses on the design, development, and demonstration of microgrids tailored for Arctic conditions. It is funded by Swedish Energy Agency, in close collaboration with Arjeplog Municipality in northern Sweden, providing a real-world Arctic test environment.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
• Strong research expertise in one of the topics: microgrids, power systems, or power electronics
• Very good knowledge in English, both written and verbal, as it is required in daily work.
• Solid programming skills, or power electronic hardware skills  

Preferred qualifications

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
• Strong expertise in at least one of the following: power system optimization/digitalization, or power electronics hardware.
• Experience in digital platform development or power electronics hardware platform is preferred
• Collaborative abilities
• Independence
• Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
