KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences

Job description

The position is part of a research project aimed at developing and applying AI‑based methods for the analysis of complex experimental data from advanced 3D cell culture systems in cancer research.

The postdoctoral researcher will primarily work on developing methods for the analysis and interpretation of large datasets, where data are generated in the form of microscopy images and electrical signals from experimental platforms. Experimental data collection is carried out in close collaboration with other researchers in the project.

The responsibilities include, among other things:

  • developing and applying machine learning and deep learning methods for the analysis of microscopy images from 3D cell cultures,
  • analysing and modelling time‑resolved electrical signals, such as electrical impedance spectroscopy, linked to biological systems,
  • integrating image and signal data to extract biologically relevant and quantitative metrics,
  • contributing to the development of automated and scalable analysis pipelines for experimental data,
  • collaborating with experimental researchers in biophysics, microfluidics, and cell biology,
  • documenting and communicating research findings through scientific publications and presentations.

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to work independently on method development and data analysis, and to actively contribute to the group’s collective work and interdisciplinary collaborations.

We offer access to advanced research infrastructure and experimental datasets from modern biophysical platforms.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Experience in image analysis for microscopy or other life‑science applications.
  • Knowledge of applying AI methods to experimental or physical measurement systems.
  • Experience of working in interdisciplinary research environments.
  • Supervision skills and awareness of diversity and equal‑opportunity issues, with a particular focus on gender equality.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
