School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH

Job description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher experienced in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and turbulence modelling who possesses strong interpersonal skills.

Streaming electrification is an electrokinetic phenomenon involving charge separation at a solid-liquid interface due to flow movement. The magnitude of the streaming current depends on the turbulent intensity. In this postdoc project we will use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and turbulence modeling to investigate the characteristics of streaming electrification, specifically the interaction between the electric double layer and the turbulent boundary layer.

Streaming electrification can affect the electric stress in the high voltage insulation system of power transformers, critical components in the electric power grid. Improved modeling will facilitate the transition to sustainable materials and innovative design solutions.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Experienced knowledge in the area of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) at the modelling and solver level, with an emphasis on turbulence modelling, transition, boundary layer theory
  • Good understanding of transport phenomena and multiphysics coupling
  • Highly proficient in both written and verbal English communication as day-to-day operations are performed in English.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • Knowledgeable in electrochemistry
  • Motivated and dedicated to research in the area of high voltage power components
  • An adaptable professional that is collaborative but can also work independently to achieve a common goal.
  • Goal-oriented mindset
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
