School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH

Job description

In collaboration with CorPower Ocean, this research project offers a unique opportunity to advance wave energy technology by developing optimized control strategies for large-scale WEC arrays. You will treat a farm of 15 Wave Energy Converters as a spatially distributed networked system, addressing complex challenges in consensus-based estimation and distributed control to maximize power output. Key responsibilities include conducting a literature review, extending existing single-device models into a simplified numerical simulation, and designing strategies to quantify the performance benefits of coordinated array operation. This role is ideal for researchers passionate about applying advanced control theory to help CorPower Ocean transition the world toward emission-free energy systems.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence.

The ideal candidate is a motivated researcher with a strong background in control systems and a drive for sustainable innovation. To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A solid understanding of control theory and numerical simulation within a Master’s level research context.
  • Proficiency in one or more key areas, including nonlinear system modeling and control design, or state estimation techniques.
  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s program (Systems, Control and Robotics, Mechatronics, or similar).
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB/Simulink or Python for developing and evaluating complex system models.

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge in wave energy conversion and the mechanical innovations driving the transition to emission-free energy.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
