Job description

A new research project is developing of sound-based, personalised and adaptive sleep interventions, with the aim to enhance sleep quality across three critical stages: sleep onset, the sleep period, and awakening. We are seeking to advance, evaluate and demonstrate three existing interactive sonic prototypes designed to support sleep.

Working with a diverse team of researchers with expertise on sound, computing, health and sleep, your position will include the following objectives: 

  • to advance, evaluate, and demonstrate three interactive sonic designs for sleep which are personalised and adaptive;
  • to engage through participatory design key stakeholders, including user groups, healthcare organisations, and sound design professionals
  • to evaluate the prototypes using both objective and subjective measures;
  • to disseminate research results in academic publications and public facing events.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in sonic interaction design. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Documented research experience at post-doctoral level in sound design, participatory design with sound, interactive sound models for computational artefacts, evaluation of sound in interaction

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • An interest in neuroscience and sleep
  • Ability to formulate own and unique research ideas and conduct research independently
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Ability to communicate research ideas and results.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a special focus on gender equality.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
