School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry,Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Ergonomics

There is an established link between psychosocial stressors in the work environment and musculoskeletal disorders. Minority stress and experiences of discrimination are risk factors for poor mental and physical health, and there are health inequities experienced by sexual-, gender-, and ethnic-minority groups at the population level.  However, there remains a knowledge gap on how workplace minority stress impacts musculoskeletal stress in Sweden. This licentiate project has two main parts:

  1. A literature review to map the current research on disparities in work-related musculoskeletal health among minority groups, and identify gaps.
  2. Using a combination of survey and interview methods, identify occupational settings, roles, and conditions that may contribute to health disparities in the Swedish context.

This is an interdisciplinary project, so the ideal candidate will bring most relevant competencies (or demonstrate a equivalent combination of relevant training and experience):

  • Epidemiology/Public Health
  • Occupational health and safety & Ergonomics
  • Mixed methods
  • Critical theory, minority stress

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Associate Professor Catherine Trask & Associate Professor Andrea Eriksson.
