The doctoral student position focuses on fundamental research within the combination of programming/modeling languages, compilers, and machine learning. In particular, the emphasis is on algorithms and the mix of theoretical and practical challenges within differentiable probabilistic programming, reinforcement learning, and real-time systems. One of the projects involves the research challenge of making a physical robot learn by itself to stand up and walk using machine learning algorithms. The doctoral student will work in close collaboration with research groups from KTH in the Digital Futures project Data-Limited Learning of Complex Dynamical Systems, but also participate in other projects. The doctoral student is employed at KTH Kista, in the Department of Computer Science, and is part of the research group lead by Associate Professor David Broman. In addition to research studies, the student is expected to take part in departmental duties, such as teaching, up to 20% of the working time.

Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
