School of Industrial Engineering and Management at KTH

Job description

Centre X is now looking for a postdoctoral researcher within advanced surface engineering. Centre X (Advanced Manufacturing Solutions for Next Generation Powertrain), is a new powerful initiative on manufacturing of innovative powertrain solutions, jointly initiated by KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, Scania and AB Volvo.

The primary objective of this postdoc position is to advance the understanding and applications of surface engineering, with a focus on enhancing system performance, its reliability, and modern surface texture characterization methods. This role will concentrate on developing innovative surface modification techniques aimed at improving the physical and chemical properties of materials, with targeted applications in sectors such as energy storage, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.

The successful candidate will employ advanced methodologies, including deposition techniques, coating technologies, micro- and nano-texturing, and surface texture characterization, while integrating these approaches with cutting-edge computational tools for modeling and analysis.

The postdoctoral researcher will work within multidisciplinary teams in close industrial collaboration, contributing to both experimental and theoretical studies. This role offers opportunities to engage with international partners and industry leaders to translate research into real-world solutions. During the period of employment, the postdoc will primarily conduct research, enhance their independence as a researcher, and create opportunities for further qualifications. The postdoctoral researcher may also be involved in and contribute to teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and postgraduate levels.
