The doctoral position is hosted at the Division of Neuronic Engineering at KTH. The Division is an internationally recognized research group focusing on head and neck biomechanics and Finite Element (FE) modelling. This project aims at developing FE models of infants and children to study head injury mechanisms, provide biomechanical evidence, and support forensic diagnosis of abusive head trauma (AHT), which is a leading cause of fatality in infants who experienced a non-accidental injury. The project also involves applying the developed models for clinical innovations. Therefore, expertise in biomechanics and FE simulations are needed, and the applicants should have a solid knowledge of mechanics or biomechanics. Furthermore, applicants should have basic studies at the MSc level in medical engineering, biomechanics, engineering physics, mechanical engineering, mechanics, or similar. This project is funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR) that supports excellent quality research and will be carried out in collaboration with forensic scientists and clinicians

Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
