Within the Biomedical flows group within the Department of Mechanics we focus on blood flow phenomena, blood clot formation and bleeding due to artificial life-supporting devices such as heart-and lung machines and heart support pumps. Additionally, we also study the formation of atherosclerosis in patient related geometries. The cross-disciplinary work carried out within the group is both computational and experimental and is always in close collaboration with clinic.
We now have the opportunity to expand our research group with one PostDoctoral researcher for a two-year position within the area of Biomedical fluid mechanics. The role involves carrying out blood flow simulations, methodology development and data analysis to investigate flow in components of the extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) circuit, especially the membrane lung. The project is highly cross-disciplinary and part of an EU-project lead by Klinkum Nurnberg, Germany and financed by the European Innovation Council (EIC). The Project will be carried out in close collaboration with other research group members as well as with the EIC project members.
The work may also include participation in the supervision of doctoral and Masters thesis students. There will also be the opportunity to get involved in teaching on undergraduate level.
