Engineering geosciences

Subject description

The subject of enginering geosciences comprises the combination of several (mainly) recent and exogenous geosciences of importance for sustainable use of soil and water resources for construction, water supply, land management and geo-energy. Examples of subject areas may include geology, hydrogeology and geophysics, but other related, technologically oriented geosciences may also be considered.

Duties

To undertake teaching, course development and examinations in engineering geoscience at basic and advanced level, as well as contribute to the development of education programs in the built environment, sustainable energy and environmental technology.
To conduct own research, including research and research applications. Supervision and funding of new PhD students. To work in close contact with other institutions at KTH and appointments outside KTH. Teaching is estimated to equal 50%.
Other tasks may also be included, such as management assignments within KTH.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is the applicant’s

  • Scientific proficiency in the subject field, demonstrated through international scientific publication,
  • ability to seek and obtain external research funding.
  • Educational skills, which should be demonstrated through previous teaching at basic and advanced level, course development, pedagogical education, and through supervision of doctoral students

Of second highest importance is the applicant’s

  • Ability to interact with the surrounding society and inform about research and development work for a sustainable built environment.
  • skills of teamwork and collaboration

It is also important that the applicant has

  • Skills to develop and lead larger projects, research teams and staff. This includes understanding of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
  • Administrative skills relevant to the content of the employment and the duties that will be included in the employment.
  • The ability to teach in English and in the long-term also in Swedish
