Subject description

The subject area includes studies of methods and models for management accounting and financial control and the effects of these on industrial operations and technology-based businesses.

Duties

The holder of this associate professorship shall contribute to the development of research and education within the subject area at the department, including by establishing new collaborations and research projects, conducting individual research, participating in the supervision of doctoral students and cooperating with the private and public sectors. The appointment also includes responsibility for teaching at first and second cycle levels, as well as supervising master thesis projects. Another important aspect is to contribute to the development of the subject area of Industrial Management, both within research and education.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

 Of highest importance is the applicant’s

  • pedagogical expertise in the field of industrial management specialized in management accounting and financial control, demonstrated through documented experience of planning, developing and implementing first-cycle courses in basic accounting and financial management, and of specialised courses in relevant fields at second-cycle level, and
  • scientific expertise in the field of industrial management, specialized in management accounting and financial control, demonstrated through having conducted independent research of a high scientific quality documented by publications in international journals and/or in conjunction with international conferences.

Of second highest importance is the applicant’s

  • documented experience of initiating research projects and obtaining external funding,
  • ability to collaborate with society and inform about research and development work,
  • necessary skill to create an academic environment and therein to develop and lead operations and staff, including knowledge of diversity and equality issues with a specific focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • experience of teaching and research at a higher education institution other than KTH (equivalent to at least a postdoctoral period) or experience from industry,
  • administrative skills,
  • collaborative abilities,
  • the capacity to teach within the subject area at both second and third cycle levels, primarily in English, with the opportunity to acquire skills in Swedish.
