KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Job description

Integrated Transport Research Lab (ITRL) is a research center aimed at researching and demonstrating transport concepts that can significantly reduce CO2-emissions while being economically and socially sustainable. ITRL develops and heads research projects involving researchers from all schools of KTH, as well as contributes to research within the system perspective in the research projects. At present, ITRL has two projects focusing on the impact of technology on efficient transport and mobility services, i.e., MMiB (Modern Mobility in the Bark City) and SustEV (Sustainable Electric Vehicle). The selected postdoc will participate in these two projects with the purpose to explore the impact of recent transport technology to the spatial movements, both at individual and system level impact analyses.

The project MMiB (Moden Mobilitet i Barkarbystaden) aims at evaluating the long term impacts of autonomous bus operation as a feeder service to more establish public transport network in Barkabystaden, Stockholm. The project is funded by the Drive Sweden-Vinnova. The postdoc’s role is to analyze the short term and long term impacts of the deployment of the bus and explore the resident’s learning process in adopting the new technology.

The second project “Toward Sustainable Electric Vehicle Use”, is funded by Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket). This project’s goal is to create conditions facilitating the adoption of electric vehicles without stimulating increased car use. In this project, the risk for increased car use with electric cars is investigated: the conditions under which increased car use is likely to occur and the influence of policy measures and the provision of charging infrastructure are explored using an interdisciplinary approach. Specifically, the postdoc will design, carry out and analyze stated adaptation experiments that will be used to investigate the behavioral alterations of car users when changing to an electric vehicle.

In both projects the postdoc will independently lead a large part of the project’s activities and communicate the results in both written form in reports and scientific articles, and orally at such venues as public meetings and international conferences.

The postdoc may also contribute in minor ways to other Integrated Transport Research Lab’s activities, up to a maximum of 20% of total time depending on what needs arise.
