KTH Royal Institute of Technology

You will work at the Division of Protein Engineering (https://www.kth.se/pro/proteineng) in the group Next Generation Protein Therapeutics (https://www.kth.se/pro/proteineng/next-generation-protein-therapeutics). The research focuses on the design and engineering of new functions and properties of natural and artificial proteins, with applications in many different areas, for example for the development of biological drugs.

A main focus is directed evolution, i.e. the use of large collections of protein variants expressed on, for example, microorganisms from which proteins with desired properties can be selected.

Job description

The work will include development and characterization of new protein-based reagents, with a long-term goal of evaluating their potential for future drugs in various disease areas such as cancer and dementia. The work will include laboratory research in protein chemistry. Examples of methods may include: selection of affinity reagent from protein libraries with for example phage display technology, production and purification of recombinant proteins, biotechnological methods for analysis of purity, secondary structure, heat stability, biomolecular interactions, cell binding, etc. For more information about our research see: https://www.kth.se/pro/proteineng/next-generation-protein-therapeutics. This postdoctoral position is a full-time employed position for one year with a possible one-year extension.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD in the subject.
When selecting the applicants, the research expertise will be assessed as well as the ability to:

  • be able to collaborate with others,
  • keep a professional approach,
  • be able to analyze and work on complex issues.

Documented experience in protein engineering methodology is required. Theoretical knowledge of combinatorial protein engineering, including protein library design, is considered a distinct advantage. Experience with FACS, cell assays, recombinant protein production and purification (including affinity chromatography and HPLC) as well as biosensor assays (e.g. SPR-based), is also important.
