KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences

Job description

The goal of this project is to develop and apply methods for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the analysis of turbulent flows on flat plates. To this end, high-order global spectral methods will be employed to perform both well-resolved large-eddy simulations and direct numerical simulations, in order to assess the influence of pressure gradient. We are in particular interested in further developing the aspects boundary conditions and UQ (uncertainty quantification). Strategies for flow control, aimed at reducing skin friction and avoiding separation, will also be explored. The researcher will become part of the Linné FLOW Centre, where he/she will have the possibility to interact with several related projects dealing with large-scale simulations and corresponding experiments, and will also have access to the multi-peta scale supercomputing facilities available at KTH, in conjunction with the Swedish e-Science Research Centre (SeRC).

Qualifications

A suitable background for this position would be a PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or computer science with a specialization in fluid mechanics, computational methods and/or applied mathematics. In addition to the traditional academic merits, a relevant degree project, international experience, and language skills are regarded as advantageous qualifications.

Applicants must possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis as well as possessing good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities.
