Project description
Third-cycle subject: Production engineering
The ongoing transformation towards smart and connected factories creates completely new opportunities for transparency and visibility in internal and external logistics. By knowing where materials and resources are and what status they have, we can improve sustainability, efficiency and flexibility. Today's real-time techniques and computing power provide new opportunities for this. Demand for, for example, environmental impact assessment is also increasing, which places new demands on the tools. In the project LOVIS (Production Logistics Visibility), which is funding this position, we have two perspectives in the same project: internal and external visibility. LOVIS involves KTH, Lund University, Scania, AstraZeneca and Odette. Scania and AstraZeneca contribute with different perspectives and experiences regarding visibility and management of internal and external material flows. Odette participates with her expertise in standards and best practice. The Royal Institute of Technology and Lund University shall create an overall picture of knowledge on internal and external visibility for production logistics.
The doctoral student will work in a dynamic research group at KTH, which in close collaboration with industry researches new methods for analyzing advanced industrial logistics systems. Together with the other researchers, the doctoral student will contribute to the development of new methods and applications to describe and predict performance and behavior in production logistics systems. The service includes 20% institutional service, which may include teaching and supervision within our education programs. The work begins with a mapping of technical, process and organizational conditions and barriers to internal and external visibility within production logistics. Then we will develop development tracks towards increased internal and external visibility, in close collaboration with industrial parties and standardization bodies.
