Job description

The Unit within Mechatronics and Embedded Control Systems is searching for a research engineer in the field of the design and verification of control systems for autonomous and connected vehicles. As a research engineer in this role, you will be part of a research team that specifically works with developing new architecture concepts, on-line risk assessment approaches and supporting development methods, as well as evaluating and demonstrating them.

The role of the candidate selected will be to lead in the development and coordination of the activities related to simulation of automated vehicles within the group. The major tasks for the candidate are to develop automated driving functions, and modeling of related parts of an intelligent edge-based infrastructure supporting automated driving and the driving environment, under the supervision of relevant experts within our research group, and to model different scenarios for testing the functions. The candidate will be expected to gain knowledge on the different tools required for simulation, help propose solutions based on the needs of the research group and coordinate development and reuse of the work products of related projects within the area. The candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of a growing diverse code base for automated driving functions, related models and scenarios, and will be responsible for effectively communicating the capabilities of the simulation platform and associated libraries with both the members of our research group and our industrial collaborators. The research data is expected to lead to both published results of high scientific quality and to be relevant for industrial application.

Qualifications

Required skills:
To qualify for the position, you need to have a MSc degree or be expected to receive such degree in the near future in a field related to embedded control systems, software engineering, robotics or a related field. You are expected to be well versed with Matlab/Simulink, be proficient with communication in English and have working knowledge in the use of version control tools such as Git/Github. 

Desired skills:
In addition to the required skills the ideal candidate will also be good at some of the following skills/knowledge
Knowledge in the automotive domain, experience from safety critical software and system design, basic understanding of functional safety, automated driving, intelligent transportation systems, edge computing, computer communications, etc.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability such as:
